Art Fair art3F Metz

This weekend my paintings will be presented by Sarah Hasch - Fine Arts at the Art Fair: art3F Metz.
Metz is close to Luxembourg and home of a Pompidou Center.
Here is one of my paintings that will be in Sarah Hasch's stand.

This was a plate of fries at the Double T Diner in Frederick Maryland.  I love the abstraction.

Angel Diner

Angel Diner, oil on canvas 80x120 cm --

There was a third figure in this painting but it didn't work so I had to cut it. You know, like editing a book.

What I like about this painting is the play of depth because of the Marylin poster and the mirrors and the sunlight bleaching out the figure to the right.  Diners are chrome and shiny.

This particular diner is in Washington, D.C.,  near Constitution Avenue.

Lots of people here in Paris associate my painting with Hopper.  I think that it is the American style of painting which unavoidably exits off my brush.  Hopper is  one of the most known contemporary realists.

Yes, Hopper did Diners but he also did landscapes, which I find terribly boring .  Last year I did not go see his expo in Paris at the Grand Palais, one because I know his work well, two because I try to avoid painting like him.  It just comes out.  I'd rather be associated with the amazing colorist: Wyane Thiebaud.  But he's less known on this side of the Atlantic.

The Grande Marché d'Art Contemporain at the Bastille - Paris May 2014

Here's my stand, less is more.
Number 102 on the Bastille end just off the parvis along Avenue de Bourdon.

I've invited about thirty gallerists to come.  One, I know, has looked into my stuff.

The theme is diners and comptoirs.  I like the comparaison between the contemporary American diner and the contemporary Parisian comptoir.  The American diner has been around for quite a while and really not much has changed in the decor, kind of like the Parisian comptoir.  In both the waiters and waitresses wear uniforms.

This is the first series I've ever done of interiors.

Merde you must tell me, don't wish me luck, I'll despise you. Tell me merde for French or merda if you want to speak Italian. Both work if your Anglo.

So happy I am that I quit painting cars and scenes of New York, its saturated.

My stand is right in front of the metro tracks, trains come and go all the time.

Here is everyone setting up yesterday.

And like wow, I am way down there on the left.  Look at that white sky!

Merde merda merde!

Diner painting

Pay Here
80x120cm
oil on canvas

I've been busy busy in the atelier painting for the Grand Marché d'Art Contemporain.  This is one of the Diner series.  Its complicated to get photos of cafe interiors because the people manning bars aren't keen on being  photographed.  But this place was different; the American Citizen Diner in D.C. They were so cool, just let me photograph everything.  I loved the little electric choo choo train that  chugged around the shelf on the cieling.  Can't wait to go back to D. C. for more pix.
Thanks to the staff.  I'll be sending postcards of the paintings I do as soon as possible.
