133 Haribo Tagada

Haribo Tagada
oil on gessoboard
15x15cm (6x6 inches)

It was nice to catch a ray of sunshine in my studio for about an hour.  The direct sunlight makes lovely contrast, much more inspiring than electric lighting. Note that only the sac and shadow are painted, the background is just the color from the defective tube of Ivory black that I bought.  It tends towards a red-purple.  I'll be sorry when the tube is finished because I don't know what color to look for.  The color is close to mixing normal Ivory black and cadmium red but the consistency is different.  Ivory black is smooth like soft butter and cadmium red is pasty.  This defective tube of Ivory black that I'm using is neither and even if I mix the latter two the consistency is just not the same.

This will be for sale at the Grand Marché d'Arte Contemporain 28 October-1 November 2011 - Bastille, Paris.
STAND 54 under the tent.  If you need tickets let me know.  There are over 1000 artists exhibition and the quality is pretty good.

130 Haribo Schtroumpf

Haribo Schtroumpf
oil on gessoboard
15x15cm

In most corner stores in Paris there is an entire selection of Haribo sachets.  There must be about 20 different kinds.  This is the smurfs.  Recently I realized that the smurfs were already sixty years old. Peyo, alias Pierre Culliford created them in 1958.
This Haribo painting along with the other Haribo sachets will be for sale —as a collection—at the GMAC (Grand Marché d'Art Contemporain) - more on that later.

126 Haribo Polka

Haribo Polka
N°126-
15x15 cm  (aprox 6"x 6'" inches)
oil on gessoboard, made in Italy

My brushstrokes are nervous, I like them that way...
Stylized violins and physharmonicas decorate the green part of this Haribo package.  It's a pell-mell polka:  raspberry flavored balls and licorice sticks and yellow lumps, shakin' it up.

Haribo Rotella 120

Haribo Rotella - black liquorice
N°120-
15x15 cm  (aprox 6"x 6'" inches)
oil on gessoboard, made in Italy

Many of you might have noticed that I like to paint packaged things.  Haribo seems to be a big favorite here in Paris; there are Haribo stands on street corners and in every little corner store.
I thought I'd get more painting done today, I still have a few hours but less than what I planned because on the way back from my gallery my telephone fell out of my jeans pocket, bounced on the street and centered the hole in the gutter.  It was terribly hilarious except that I just spent the last two hours at the telephone store to recuperate my number and buy a smacking new telephone.  These things happen to me, I still am painting in the dark, the lights have not been fixed... Enough blabla back to the easel

café carte Noir

Café Carte Noir
N°116 -
15x15 cm  (aprox 6x6inches)
oil on Italian fabrication gesso board

The background has written in it coffee in French, English and Italian.  I can smell the fresh ground beans.  I tried many a coffee here in Paris, Lavazza is my favorite, Illy is good too but overrated and too expensive, one pays for the packaging.  In the end Carte Noir won over my taste buds.  The Lavazza is not as good as in Italy, it's for importation and all those eco-solidal brands are missing a the kick my butt needs in the morning or they're too strong to be tasteful.  Vive Carte Noir!

N 73 Creme Entier .
This painting looks so pop to me.  A critic in Florence said in 1999 that my Italian food paintings were pop oriented.  Here is a link to the definition of pop art.

A Box of Chocolate Prailines- n°59

What better thing to eat on a rainy winter day.  I had to go down around the corner to Jadis Gourmand
The problem was which ones to choose!  The perfume of cocoa is so overwhelming, not for the weak and meak.  I love chocolate!
