This is unfinished but you get the picture, right? 

The title is Deux Gars because the French cut off all these words like garçons, ordinateur, publicité... Hey les gars? What's up? looking at your ordi?  What's the pub?  (pub is pronounced like boob.)

The photo for this comes from Le Select on boulevard de Montparnasse.  It's one of the famous literary cafés in Paris.

another stolen painting

Yes another painting has been stolen, this is the fourth and one of my all time favourites

Anyone see it please contact me.  It seems to have disappeared from Ivry before I moved ateliers ...

This painting has been shown in several galleries in France and in Belgium.
It is an oil on canvas size 80x80 cm.  The stretcherbars are 4cm thick and painting goes around the sides.  Dated on back 2009.  Signature on back "brooksby" and on front lower left.

I tried to change my style and paint on white canvas but it just doesn't suit me.  So this painting is a mixture  of smearing, veiling and alla prima.  Someone told me that the shirt of the man is too evident.  That is exactly my intent. I'm pretty happy.  

The cafe is on the corner of rue Saint Placide and rue de Cherche Midi in the 6th.  I have to go by and thank the owner for letting me photograph them at work.  Surely the waiter will recognize himself.  

The same person who commented on the shirt also said that the eyes of the waiter should have looked direclty at the viewer.  But that doesn't work in this kind of painting.  The figures if front-on must blend, therefore the waiter's eyes are less evident than the white shirt.

I've been busy busy in the atelier painting for the Grand Marché d'Art Contemporain.  This is one of the Diner series.  Its complicated to get photos of cafe interiors because the people manning bars aren't keen on being  photographed.  But this place was different; the American Citizen Diner in D.C. They were so cool, just let me photograph everything.  I loved the little electric choo choo train that  chugged around the shelf on the cieling.  Can't wait to go back to D. C. for more pix.

Thanks to the staff.  I'll be sending postcards of the paintings I do as soon as possible.

This is the first of the diner series.   This diner is the Double T Diner in Frederick Maryland.

Here is the first work for 2014,  a request for a painting of Bordeaux, not quite a commission.  We'll save the detials.

It's not a spacy as atelier 28 of La Fabrique des Artistes in Ivry-sur-Seine...

 

but I do have heat and hot water - sigh. 

This atelier is up to rent if you are intersteted contact the chef at the Fabrique.  I left 60 cans of spray paint for the future artist.

Happy New Year! destockage old paintings for 2014

Hey there, sorry to post this late but it has been 18 months of house hunting, renovations and all the stress involved.  The last two months have been boxing, moving and everything else but painting.

I planned to paint in my old studio until the end of January but there was a leak from the studio upstairs.  Result, I had to move out because everything got humid, even the door that was stuck. I lost several paintings and lots of documents.

Today for the first time I opened my paint box and it felt great.  Here are some photos of what was going on, before I moved to the new place... 

I'll be posting more regulary and hosting some auctions on ebay of old works that don't fit me anymore nor do they fit into my new studio.  Which is much smaller but way nicer.  A photo coming soon.

I'll miss this awesome atelier where Farah Atassi once worked, even though it doesn' t feel right anymore. Still, I was sad when leaving.  A post industrial building on the outskirts of Paris perfect for creating freely, you can paint the walls, tag them, nail anywhere and basically trash the place or build it to your fancy.  Personally I like cleanliness and order.  Not the case last week.

 

I had to move everything away from the leak that came down like rain.

 

This is a box of manuscripts my father wrote, wet.

 

trashed paintings.  I cut them to peices and threw them out.  Oh well
