Beep Beep! - back to NYC

Beep Beep!
50x50cm oil on canvas
More and more I want to abstract what I am painting.  It's like jazz, I don't really like jazz but only a person with a hellova technique can play jazz.    I feel like I know what I'm doing so now it's time to have fun.

Villaggio del Valdarno

Villaggio del Valdarno
20x40cm oil on gessoboard
The Appenines on the horizon in the Valdarno set off the houses on the ridge.  Sting lives over there.  You can find his villa easily because the paparazzi hang around the gate with super-powered lenses attached to their necks.

Vineyard in Chianti

Vineyard in Chianti
30x30cm oil on gessobard
The road from San Donato in Poggio to Castellina in Chianti is always an inspiration.  Oe thing I love about this area is the levels of valleys that make wonderful atmoshperic perspective.

Hills of Baratti

Hills of Baratti
25x50cm oil on canvas
Digging through the portfolios in my studio I found this painting from 2002.  It is a house on the Viale della Principessa that runs from San Vincenzo to Piombino in the Val di Cornia.  I can see the influence of the Macchiaoli and I remember laboring over this painting.  The powerlines make it more interesting to me.  The industrial world in the Tuscan hills.

tuscany here we come

Olive Grove
45x55cm oil on linen canvas
The last few years I've done few paintings of Tuscany.  Before moving to Paris Tuscany was my main squeeze.  Twenty-one years of painting on site in the countryside were fantastic but when it became fashionable to hang a field of poppies over your couch the love affair petered off my palette.  It's still in my heart and so the next several paintings are dedicated to that unique place.
